North Hampshire Wine Society · since 1978
Do you like drinking wine?*
That's the whole entry requirement. Eight wines, a proper buffet and good company — one evening a month. Wine, without the waffle.
* No expertise required. No snobbery tolerated. The asterisk is the only small print.

What you're signing up for
A monthly evening that's actually a good night out
No lanyards, no lectures you can't escape. Just a room full of people who'd rather open another bottle than talk about tannin structure for an hour.
Eight wines, one theme
A merchant or maker pours a flight built around a region or idea — Loire one month, Rhône reds the next. You taste, you score, you learn what you actually like.
A buffet, not a seminar
Food to soak it up, tables to sit around, and plenty of time to natter. The talk is short and the questions are encouraged.
People who became friends
Some members have been coming for decades; some joined last month. The Venn diagram of 'likes wine' and 'good company' is just a circle here.

Talk yourself out of it here
If you've thought any of these, you're exactly who we're for.
- I don't know anything about wine.
- Perfect. Neither did most of us when we joined. You'll pick it up by drinking it and asking nosy questions. There's no test.
- Isn't it expensive?
- Membership arrives with tasting passes and guest passes worth what you paid for it — so the year rather pays for itself. Evenings are eight wines plus a buffet at the member rate.
- Will I know anyone?
- You will by the end. Tell us you're coming alone when you book and we'll sit you with the friendly ones (all of them).
- Do I have to spit?
- Absolutely not. Spit, swirl, or simply swallow — entirely your call. We're a society, not an exam board.
“I came for the wine and stayed for the people. Best tenner I spend all month.”
“No snobbery, no spitting into little buckets unless you want to. Just good bottles and good company.”
“I now know what I like and why. That alone was worth it.”
Your first glass is closer than you think
Membership is £100 a year, and a member's evening is just £20. Bring a friend — guests are welcome.
